Ronald Reagan essays

Ronald Reagan essays Ronald Wilson Reagan, known as "the great communicator," oversaw the largest peacetime and has had a significant impact ever since. In 1979, Reagan entered the race for the Republican nomination for president. He faced stiff competition but in May 1980, he received enough delegates to win the nomination. Reagan chose Bush as his running mate. After the convention, Reagan lost the large lead he had held over President Jimmy Carter, and they were often tied in the polls. Even though Reagan was criticized for being vague, his ability as a speaker helped him project a favorable image. His strong performance in a debate with Carter one week before the election was credited with winning over a large number of votes. Voters were troubled with inflation and by the year-long confinement of Americans in Iran.' Reagan promised to cut taxes and reduce spending, "while restoring Americas prestige abroad." Reagan received 50.7 % of the popular vote along with 489 electoral votes, while his opponent, Jimmy Carter received 41% of the popular vote with only 49 electoral votes. In the summer of 1984, Reagan campaigned for re-election. Supported by a vigorous economic recovery, Reagan turned his focus on certain key issues such as Balancing a Federal Budget, Central America, and The Strategic Defense Initiative. Polls indicated that Reagan appealed to many across borders such as age, class and even political party. "Reagan Democrats" turned away from the Democratic party as well as young voters who were historically pro-Democrat. Campaign ads for Reagan consisted of peaceful images of "Morning in America." Even with all the positive momentum toward re-election, there was still one thing that worried Reagans campaign managers, and that was Reagan himself. They feared that his image as a decisive and involved leader would fade under investigation, so Reagan avoided formal news conferences and many reporters. During the ...

Essay Genre essays

Essay Genre essays A documentary by definition is according to the Academy Rule 12 of the rules for the Academy Award: a non-fictional movie. Documentaries are films made for the sole purpose of persuasion, designed chiefly to get the viewer to see the makers point of view or the point of view they are presenting. Documentaries often have a narrator who helps the story or is the driving force for the whole film, but this is not always so. Documentaries can occupy one or more of four broad categories, these are, Journalistic which involves information and analysis. Social Comment, documentaries which reveal problems within society. Educational, which concern themselves with entertainment but main objective is to teach. And finally Magazine which according to Film Study Collection: Genres is a variety of short documentaries and newsreel essays included in a single program with a studio host. The two documentaries being concentrated on in this essay are both social comment. Bowling for Columbine is a fast paced, in your face documentary that uses very fast and often questionable editing to provide a visual bombardment of images to get its point across. Critically acclaimed director Michael Moore shocks the viewer into his point of view. He uses mini-interviews with people associated with the topic of gun violence, and school shootings, to give the viewer a persuasive taste of what Michael Moore is presenting. The documentary provides a virtual smorgasbord of short news clips, interviews, cartoons, and background music all narrated by Michael Moore. The movie makes strong use of juxtaposition as is evident in a scene where the viewer is shocked with scenes of violence, death and killing all set to the Louis Armstrong song Its a Wonderful World. Michael Moore makes strong use of hyperbole, and hard to follow conclusions to exploit and expose the many problems of the United States of America, a society that the documen ...

The Homeless Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Homeless - Essay Example Some debates continue on whether the homeless should keep living in such conditions or not and whether the governments of their respective countries have put any effort to alleviate and improve the conditions of the people. The issue is difficult to determine if the homeless should be assisted or the government or other welfare organizations should advance their efforts to address the problem since various factors are important in decision-making. The contributions of the government or non-government organizations are subjected to serious scrutiny and from that, people have come up with their own perspective where any side of the arguments does not support the other, and each provides valid justifications for its position (Lowe 18-22). According to the facts presented by various sides of view of the current problems facing the homeless, it is not easy to decide in favor of any side a person can take in the debate. Those who support the view that homeless individuals should be assiste d argue that it is not a personal choice to be homeless, but it is a matter of circumstances that are beyond their abilities. This is because the income that these people earn does not support their bid to build or rent and sustain themselves in good houses and have enough for their daily consumption. Those who advocate for the assistance of the homeless argue that some circumstances that these people face can only be alleviated by external power that is not from within them because they cannot have enough for that purpose. Getting enough amount of money to support their well-being becomes a struggle for these people and therefore, the government and potential organizations should cooperate to implement the desired changes in the society. Having a home is the provision of basic need to the people who need it and it facilitates good living for all the people who access a place to stay (Robinson 83-84). People who have homes within a context with the homeless to psychological pressure curtail their participation in activities that can alleviate their economic conditions. This means that homelessness does not only affect the victims in the physical ways but also facilitates deterioration of their potential to exploit resources to attain their livelihood. This implies that assisting the homeless to secure homes can improve the condition of the people in the society and enhance the stability of the people in the process of their development (Robinson 85). The proponents for assistance of the homeless argue that the local authority of the areas which have homeless individuals has a legal obligation to provide places to stay and live. This implies that according to the proponents of the debate, if local authorities do not do anything to alleviate the condition, they fail to do their responsibilities to the people in an equitable way. Through fulfilling the mandate of the local authorities, it is possible to conclude that it is legal to provide homes to the people who have none and to facilitate their stay in such places. Neglecting the duty to guarantee shelter to the homeless by the local authority amounts to failure to do the responsibilities that are supposed to be done for the society (Robinson 96). On the other hand, there are other people who are opposed to provision of shelters to any

Roman Consul and Congress Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Roman Consul and Congress - Essay Example However, the Roman empire was not stable in its earlier foundations, part of the Roman army mutinied against the empire and seized Reghium, a Roman city and held it against the Romans for over ten years, however, in 270 BC, a Roman commander named Hieron crushed the rebellion. In the period 443, the Roman Empire established the Consularship. This institution was to help the Roman Empire in governance and enact laws. The Roman form of government had differences and similarities to the modern system of Governance in America which has the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, each performing different kinds of work and independent of one another. The United States congress is bicameral in nature, and it consists of the senate and House of Representatives, each playing different roles but supplementing each other (Waide, 17). This paper analyzes the features of the Roman counsel, its roles and significance to the Roman Empire. It also analyzes the features of the United States Co ngress, its roles and significance to the United States in regard to governance and policy making. In doing this, this paper explains major differences and some aspects of similarities between the American Congress and the Roman counsel, which is the main objective of this paper. This paper has a conclusion, which gives brief disadvantages of these systems of government. The paper, in meeting its objectives, analyzes the roles of the consuls in the Roman Empire, and of the senate. The paper has identified the different assemblies that characterized the Roman consularship and how they relate to the senate. In doing this, the paper has managed to portray the differences between the Roman consularship and the United States Congress. A consul was the highest ranking officer in the political environment of Rome. Each year, two consuls were appointed to govern Rome, and each had a veto against one another. This was to prevent the rise of dictatorship. With the rise of the emperors, in 27 B C, the Roman consuls lost their powers since they were subject to the emperor. Consuls were called Praetors, which meant leaders, and had authority in administrative, judicial and legislative matters. In periods of War, consuls were military commanders and were elected by Commitia Centuriata, a committee of local people who composed of one hundred men. These men were elected by the people and had military backgrounds therefore this committee was a representation of the people. Consulship was reserved for the ethnic group of Patricians but after a long period of time, the Plebeians were allowed to become consuls. During a period of conflict, qualifications of becoming a consul was military skills and a good reputation in terms of bravery and wisdom. During a period of time, there was need to elect more consuls, and the Comita Centuriata ceased to do this, and thus the consuls were elected by the Senate.Consuls had executive powers and were heads of government, and in the year 443 BC, several responsibilities were taken from the consuls and given to censors and praetors. Censors were responsible for taking taxes while praetors were judicial officers. Consuls were responsible for carrying out decisions of the senate and could convene the senate and attend its meetings, since they were

Analyzing the Similarities between “Hymn to the Aton” and “Psalm 104” Essay Example for Free

Analyzing the Similarities between â€Å"Hymn to the Aton† and â€Å"Psalm 104† Essay The thought that two different works of art written by authors of different countries, different backgrounds, living eight hundred years apart and centering on religion—more [specifically] their portrayal of God and how he is like the sun—[being similar] would [be] deem[ed] [as] impossible [or not likely by many]. [However,] the poems [â€Å"]Hymn to the Aton[† by Akhenaton] and [â€Å"]Psalm 104[† by David are examples of] this very occurrence. [Some scholars assert] that either the latter was copied from the former or that these two works are the result of a cultural split, [due to the] vast difference of [similar] elements [and subject matter that the poems share. ] the poems were fostered within, their similarities in content, and that the poems could not have been creative coincidence. The benefits in understanding that these works have some connection, whether by plagiarism or cultural dissect, provides scholars with more knowledge about the world we live in, helps to decipher some of the myths and mysteries of other cultures with similarities and shows the public all cultures may not be as different from each other as we think, helps to show that propaganda has been used since the earliest of times, and that if societies do not document their findings or creations people will eventually circle back and rediscover them. Collectively, if applied to the modern world, these benefits will advances in many fields of academia and help society at large to become more critical thinkers and problem solvers. [Based on your body paragraphs, I have simplified your thesis map to the following:] [The three clearest similarities of the two poems include their similar discussion of the power of the sun or the notion of the sun as a symbol for the power of God, the similarities of the daily activities of the two cultures and their link to their God, and the emphasis of monotheism.] [Now, provide one or two sentences that explain what current societal issue can be resolved or lessened through the realization of the similarity of these two poems.] The contrast between Hymn to the Aton and Psalm 104 are numerous. Hymn was written by Pharaoh Amenhotep IV around 1300 B.C.E. in order to help support his efforts to convert all of Egypt to monotheism and worship of the Sun, which called Aton. [First, it is uncanny the manner in which both poets use the sun as a point of reference for their God]. In [â€Å"Hymn to the Aton† Akhenaton proclaims] the actual Sun [as] god. â€Å"Thou living Aton the beginning of life!Creator of seed in women, Thou who makes fluid into man, Who maintainest the son in the womb of this mother..† In the psalm, King David writes how God created the sun [to] reflect His greatness. [Provide a quote from â€Å"Psalm 104† that shows David discussing the sun.] â€Å"LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothe with splendor and majesty†¦ But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took flight†. King David’s poem was written about eight hundred years after the hymn and David does not mention much about himself, instead he praises the Lord. â€Å"I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.† Based on the time and purpose of these poems, they could not have been coincidence, that the poems are similar, there had to have been a purposeful connection between them. [While there are slight variations of how the sun is used, in both poems the writers explain how the sun meets the needs of the people and how that act is a symbol of the greatness and goodness of God.] Understanding this connection helps us to discover more and develop our perception about the world around us. [How so? Explain how it can benefit one group of people to be able to realize similarities with another group of people with whom they have historically seen no connection.] [Next, both poems] list almost identical daily activities in the exact order throughout the works. â€Å"[Provide quotes from both poems.]† Many of these [similarities] seem to be paraphrased and suggest that these writing come from the same source like two eye witness accounts of the same crime. After understanding the differences in the author’s cultures, religions, and time periods these similarities support the claim that the works are connected either by plagiarism or cultural split. This helps [readers] to realize that many cultures may not be as different from one another as [people often] think. [Yes, and how can this realization help our culture or society? What societal issue or problem can be solved or lessened with this realization?] Based upon detailed examination [of] the similarities of the [poems, many scholars assert that the shared elements, especially the support of monotheism, are not] by coincidence. [Provide a quote supporting monotheism from both poems.] Some researchers suggest that Hebrews fleeing from Egypt before the time of Moses, some of them wondered into temples where the hymn was written, and has the walked along the hymn was one songs they sang and it was carried throughout the generations, but not that the psalm is not a plagiarism of the hymn, this only leaves the notion that there was a cultural split. We are not sure at this point how the works are linked, [While scholars disagree on which group influenced the other into embracing monotheism, it is clear that a cultural exchange occurred between the two groups. Thus, this realization of the similarity is another example for scientists and anthropologists showing that cultures have always exchanged ideas. This exchange of ideas becomes even more interesting when we realize that the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians.] but it could definitely give more light and support to how scientist and anthropologist other academic researchers and make strides in their fields, help us to understand how cultures are linked across the board. [Explain how discovering that these two ancient cultures exchanged ideas can provide a blueprint or inspiration for current cultures and how that blueprint or inspiration can help those cultures solve or lessen a current societal issue.] After deep analysis s of these two poems it is clear that one is either copied from the other or [that there was some mutual exchange of cultural ideas] at some point in history. [Using the two poems to realize this occurrence] helps historians and scientists to make deductions about connections [to] other cultures, [allowing more people to better understand the surrounding world]. [Yes, now explain how society can improve if more people are able to understand and connect to the surrounding world or the people surrounding them

McTaggarts Argument Evaluation Essay -- McTaggart Time Existence Essa

McTaggart's Argument Evaluation McTaggart takes a bold step in trying to disprove the existence of a phenomenon as taken for granted and unquestioned as breathing when he tackles the issue of time. If for no other reason, this quest is extremely daring in its scope, because he chooses to question an entity whose reality has probably never crossed most people’s minds.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  McTaggart’s goal in his paper is, on a large scale, to prove that time does not exist. We will, however, be tackling the aspect of time known as the A-Series in this essay. His entire argument rests on his ability to prove this A-Series is unreal. The A-Series is the â€Å"tense† component of time that we perceive. When we refer to happenings in our lives, they occur in the past, present or future tense. Which tense a given event commands depends on its relation to a moving â€Å"now.† As we move through life, things in the future move ever closer to the present and after an event occurs it is forever moving further and further into the past thanks to the forward-moving â€Å"now.† McTaggart’s goal is to prove the logical difficulties that the concept of the moving â€Å"now’s† existence calls to mind, and it is these difficulties that ultimately lead McTaggart to rule out time’s existence.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  McTaggart’s first step in proving his point is to highlight the incompatibility of the respective tenses of past, present and future. The incompatibility lies in the fact that no event can possess all of these properties at once. At first glance this may seem like an obvious and meaningless thing to say, because no one would argue that anything represents all these qualities at one time. Instead, most would be inclined to point out that an occasion holds all three of these qualities at three different points in time. McTaggart has no problem with this claim and goes so far as to label each period during which something has each of these qualities as T1, T2, and T3. When something exists at a certain moment in the future, that moment is T1. This strategy is applied to the event at the moment it enters the present; it is here that it is known as T2. And when the happening is located at a moment in the future, it is referred to as T3. Again, objectors to the t heory that the A-Series is unreal would feel like they still have the upper hand; fully agreeing with McTaggart’s logic, but this is where McTaggart make... ...ature of God’s creation. The vastness of that which He’s created suggests that there will be things that humans won’t be able to logically sort out. This inability should not, however, be mistaken as proof that the A-Series or another complex entity does not exist. McTaggart’s argument lacks proof of his claim; he uses his opposition’s inability to form a definite refutation of his claim while he never really provides one himself.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  While McTaggart makes a pretty convincing case, I don’t feel like there is any real proof in his claims. There is compelling evidence in his arguments, but he definitely leaves room for dissent. One other problem I have with McTaggart’s argument is what his conclusion means. Assuming he has made an air-tight case that cannot be argued against, what has he really said? Following his logical process he doesn’t provide a meaningful conclusion. What have we gained from knowing that the A-Series and our perceived â€Å"now† do not exist as we were once sure they did? Do we change the way we live our lives? Nothing at all changes, because our perception of the world remains exactly the same, with nothing more than a slightly enlightened perspective gained.

Economic Growth and Workers Essay

What basically the article of Mehring would want to states into the public would be the adverse effect of the economic growth on the labour market [workers]. It was states on his paper entitled â€Å"Vital Signs: A Not-So-Great ‘08† that market analysts predicts, as 2008 comes, the economy to be more dependent on the consumption level of the consumers. In this light, Mehring stressed that this would be impossible considering the current condition of one of the primary sector in the economy- housing. For the past years, housing sectors has been performing so badly after the end of 2005 as the demand of consumers for housing units declined dramatically giving the housing firm a hard hit on their financial capabilities. In this regard, members of the housing sectors were forced to lay-off some of their workers. Furthermore, the financial sector of the economy has not been performing well making the recovery of the housing sector to slow down. At the end of the day, it is the consumers, workers at the same time, which receives the entire burden since there is a big possibility for them to be fired from their jobs and/or to receive lower wages as the economy continuous to perform badly. From November last year up to the present, the number of jobless people continuously keeps on rising. Even though there are a lot of jobs that has been created at the start of this year, around 70,000 jobs, those are still not enough to compensate the job losses that occur in the labor market. Due to the fact that there workers receives lower incomes, logically, they can only consume less thus making the profit of the businesses to decline. It was identified that retail stores experienced significant drop on their sales even during the holiday season. Due to this, their profitability and outlook in the economy started to become dependent on the performance of the consumption level of the consumer group. Since the profit of the producers are negatively affected by the lower consumption of the consumers, as well as due to the fact that there is a large pool of unemployed people available in the labor market, there is a leeway for businesses to offer lower wages to their employees, and the cycle of burden goes on. Although, export market keeps on lowering down the bad performance of the economy through convincing the investors that there is still hope for our economy for avert the negative effects of recession to the entire economy. Because of the alarming effects of the bad economic performance of the country, the government has been identifying ways on how to increase the growth of the labor sector to improve the consumption levels of the consumers and thus improving the profitability of the business firms operating in the market especially those coming from the construction and housing sector. There are already around 350,000 job losses that occurred by the end of December 22 and the current level that we have is higher than with the average level of 2007. Meanwhile, most of the job growth falls under the service sector and they are accounted for around 150,000 of the 192,000 jobs that are added in October last year (Mehring 4). Inside the service sector, it is the professional services, health care, leisure and entertainment that contributes for the improvement of the service sector. In order for the government to fully address the problem regarding unemployment, they must focus their policies and programs for the betterment of the financial sector, private as well as the providing measures on how to increase the growth rate of the labor market. In short, finds ways on moving the economy away from the midst of recession and secure the concerned sectors of the economy for a sustainable economic growth. Critique and Insight Based from the article of Mehring, there is a clear relationship of economic growth and the labor sector which is comprises by the working class. Actually, Mehring presented in his paper how the cycle of recession and unemployment exists in our economy nowadays. Actually, it is a good thing that he mentioned it in his paper since it provides us of the reasons why the government is actually bound of which party they would protect the most, is it the private or the consumer group which could also be classified as workers. The not-so-good- performance of our economy for the past two years has been imposing serious threats to major industries and one of this is the housing industry. Here is the logic, by the time the demand housing units declined by the end of 2005, members of the housing industry starts to experience lower profitability. Due to this scenario, this housing industry starts to become incapable of sustaining the current level wage rate and what they will do is to either lay-off some workers and/or lowers down the wage rate that they pay for their workers in order to secure their profitability which eventually further decaying the income and purchasing power of the consumers [workers] and the cycle continuous. There have been studies saying that in order for the economy to progress impressively, the government must find ways to maintain a lower unemployment rate. But what is happening in our case would be a different one considering the response of the consumer group and the market condition of major business sectors. Here, the government must not only focus on the unemployment rate but also considering the welfare of the business firms in making actions to address the problem. There are times wherein the government is too much engross in solving the unemployment rate but sacrificing the welfare of the businesses and at the end of the day the problem still remain and become worse. I think, it would be better for our government to find solutions to increase the rate of job growth that will not affect negatively the businesses in the economy like lowering down the restrictions of FDI into the country in order for the foreign investors to be encourage establishing their businesses here, thus, making creating more jobs. Moreover, the government could lower down the taxes of the taxes of the domestic companies in exchange of not laying-off of workers. Another possible solution that the government could implement would be to lessen the trade barriers of the government to give way for the multinational companies to set up their branches here in the country and thus creating more jobs to the economy. The reason why I have been to much in particular of solving the problem regarding unemployment because when a person has a job he could earn an income and used it to his needs or simply as consumption. By the time consumption improves, then, businesses starts to perform better and so with the entire economy. In this scenario, we could see that economic growth and workers are really related to one another. Moreover, it is good that Mehring identified in his paper the connection of the financial sector in revitalizing not only the growth of the business firms but also its importance on upgrading the financial capabilities of the consumers. Growth of businesses firms [economic growth] as well as upgrading of financial capabilities of consumers [workers] is made possible by the financial sector if they would lower down their interest rate from borrowing in order for the businesses and consumers to borrow money from them and used this money to increase their purchasing power and their budget for operation. Since in this scenario consumer will be having more money [through borrowing], then, their consumption level will improved and so with the profitability of the business firms especially the housing and construction sectors which are currently in bad shape in terms of demand and profitability. In this regard, it would be necessary to say that economic growth and workers are interrelated to one another, and the performance of one could affect the other through various economic factors such as consumption pattern and supply level.

Volleyball vs Softball

Petter Tomas ENG 101 September 12th, 2011 Volleyball Vs. Softball Home run! Spike! These are some very different words that mean very different things between softball volleyball. Not only are they different but they can be alike in smaller ways also. They both deal with balls, there both sports, they are both played in the same season. Their different in sizes, both uses different equipment, and are both played very differently. When it comes to the equipment used there are no similarities. There are many differences in the equipment used in volleyball then there is in softball. You don’t use bats in volleyball, and you don’t use nets in softball. The balls used in volley ball are much larger compared to a softball. In softball you use a bat to hit the ball out into the field. In volleyball you use your hands to hit the ball over the net to the other side. The teams don’t compare in sizes. In volleyball there are six people on both sides of the net. As in softbal l there can be nine to ten players out on the field. If you play slow pitch there is usually ten, but if its fast pitch theirs usually nine.Of course since they are completely two different sports that would mean that they have completely different rules on how to play. Volleyball and softball are usually both played around the same time of year, spring time. They can both be played outdoors. Volleyball can be played out doors in the sand or inside a gym. It doesn’t really matter as long as you have a net. When it comes to softball you can only play that outside on a softball field. When it comes to both sports, they are both very different. I rather would prefer to play softball rather than volleyball. To me softball is more of a competitive sport, always moving around the field. There’s more areas to play. Such as pitcher, catcher, hitter. But don’t get me wrong I like to play volleyball for fun also. Softball and volleyball are very different in many ways. But similar in some ways also. They are both great sports to play. So if you like to spike it, or hit a home run, they are both fun sports to play. a-raes end end Hdad beging People are always trying to figure out what sport to play. Some of the most popular sports to participate in and to watch, just happen to be the two sports that I have the most expertise in.I played in both volleyball and softball thought out my young life. I have played in organized league's both in high school and for the YMCA as well. I am using these two examples to show you two differences and two similarities that both sports have in common. In providing you this information I hope it may become beneficial in helping a person that is having trouble deciding which sport is best for them. If their final two choices were volleyball and softball that is. First we will talk about the differences. The first difference that I will discuss will be about a piece of equipment that is used in both sports and has to be u sed to participate and play in both sports. The second difference that I want to convey is what effect fiscal contact has on your decision to picks the correct one. The two similarities that I am going to discuss are that they both can be played with little expense to a person or persons and that both of these sports you have flexibility in the times of the year that you can play and participate in both sports and is a factor in the popularity of both sports. The piece of equipment that may be used as a deciding factor in choosing the correct sport for a person and probably the most important piece is the ball. Its true they both are played with a ball. The differences that I want to bring up are the size of the balls and the way they are made. The softball is harder and made of a more durable core made of a solid polyurethane and. The outer leather is stitched and held together with a nylon thread. It has a circumference of ten inches. Where the volleyball is a lot softer leather an d has a circumference of twenty-five inches. The ball that is used in a volleyball game is hit with your fist and the ball used in a softball game is hit with a bat. The second difference that I think could be a factor in your decision is how much body contact that is involved in both sports. Yes, they both are considered a non contact sport with minimal contact, but in both sports you can experience an injury if you are not fit and in shape. and the many different environments that both can be played in. For example, football players often tackle the opposite players to stop them approaching forward. But it is rarely seen in a baseball game.Another major difference is the rule. For instance, it changes defense side and offense side when every three players are out in a baseball game. But it’s totally different from football. You are changed to offense side when you intercept the ball. The last difference is that football players have to carry the ball to touch down but baseba ll players don’t need to do that. In conclusion, though there are some similarities and differences This could be a deciding factor when choosing the correct sport. Some people may think softball as a more of a â€Å"tough man† sport.Or a person that plays volleyball,he/she is has more skills that someone that plays softball. Contrary to what spectators may think, these two sports take effort by all the players. This is one thing that football and basketball have in common. Both of these sports are team sports, because it takes every person on the team to achieve and succeed is either in school participating off scholarship or playing in a league out side school. start the understanding that it takes hard work, team work and working with others to and achieve personal goals later on in life. They are both great sports to. wo concepts that a person can needs to prosper and sussed. I have picked both are very popular from childhood threw adulthood. The concept of working together that working with people is needed in the grand schemes of things to, achieve goals, and to succeed in life. There are so many sports in the world. There are some similarities and differences between these two sports. I would like to discuss the similarities first. needed teamwork to win a game. Teammates should cooperate with each other and follow their strategy made by coaches to go through the game and win eventually. There are no two better sports than softball and volleyball to use as the seed to being teaching these idea. Both are a fun activity and both can be played with a minimal of funding. Volleyball and softball are usually both played around the same time of year, spring time. They can both be played outdoors. Volleyball can be played out doors in the sand or inside a gym. Softball is usually played outside on a softball field. I would prefer to play softball rather than volleyball. To me softball is more of a competitive sport.Your always moving around. Thereà ¢â‚¬â„¢s more areas to play. Such as pitcher, catcher, hitter. Due to this, peat has been gaining significant importance in the fuel industry following which the UNFCCC, and other organizations affiliated with the UN have classified peat as important source of fuel. Growing demand for electricity generation on account of growing population has been one of the major factors driving the peat market. Growing industries of alcoholic beverages, water treatment and horticulture are also anticipated to contribute to the growth of the market. However, owing to its classification as a â€Å"slow renewable fuel† by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and many other manufacturers, peat industry is expected to experience a slowdown in the next few years. Increasing popularity for bio-fuels and focus on development of bio-based peat products are expected to provide new opportunities for the growth of the market. North Am erica and

Needs Analysis Essay †English For Tourism

Needs Analysis Essay – English For Tourism Free Online Research Papers Needs Analysis Essay- English For Tourism Needs analysis is the most important part of an ESP course. In fact, one of the main absolute characteristics of ESP, with which some of the most important authors such as Strevens or Dudley-Evans agree, is that ESP is designed to meet specific needs of the learner. In this paper I aim to stress the importance that a concept such as needs analysis has in a class of English for tourism. However, Esp teachers do not always pay the deserved attention to this feature. Many students usually expect a needs analysis in a class of ESP such as English for tourism. However, not many teachers feel that such a test is necessary for the course that is going to be taught. Teachers very often rely on already prepared materials to teach the course so they leave aside the students needs and the fact that, maybe, those students have some specific wants. If teachers conduct their courses with textbooks, which do not always have the specific contents to achieve the desired goals, the course will end up being a general English class. Therefore, in a class of English for tourism, a teacher should be able to analyse the target needs and the learning needs, which is something that is very important for the design and development of the course. Depending on the job a student wants to do, the teacher should analyse the target needs because tourism involves a very wide range of jobs such as hotel management or touristic guide. In this case, the student would need certain skills to express his or her knowledge in the target language. From here onwards, the teacher should design an appropriate syllabus taking into account those needs in order to include the activities for the learners to achieve those skills. However, one of the reasons why teachers do not normally use the needs analysis is that they very rarely have the appropriate knowledge in order to fill in those needs. Due to this, teachers use textbooks which are oriented to the subject of English for tourism, but only in the sense of vocabulary. It is also true that the role of the teacher has some requirements, that is, among others, he or she needs to have a basic knowledge of the main principles of the subject on which the ESP course focuses. In order to pay the right attention to needs analysis the teacher has to be able to solve those needs. As a conclusion, it is very important that an ESP teacher gives the deserved attention to the needs analysis. In order to achieve this, a teacher should use, not only textbooks, but also realia to teach the course. The teacher should also separate those needs into target needs and learning needs depending on the aims of the course and also, the teacher should have some basic notions of the basis subject. Teachers should really bear all this in mind so that an ESP course is successful for them and for all the students.
